Blue Madonna: A Carol Reed Story developed by MDNA Games is a story driven first person point-and-click spooky adventure that has you solving a mystery case and unmask an evil-doer. The new installment keeps the main features of game series, including photographic artwork and intuitive gameplay. Unfortunately, this title fails in giving us its storyline. It begins challenging enough, but then discloses itself to be just an ordinary hidden object quest.
The core gameplay hasn’t been changed very much. In Blue Madonna: A Carol Reed Story as usually you must explore a variety of locations, searching different tools used for solving puzzles and mini-games. Due to numerous scenes to visit it is pretty easy to get lost. However, most of locations look very similar. Sometimes it is hard to understand where you are and where you should go next. The developers don’t even provide you with any in-game map, so you are absolutely on your own throughout the game.
Blue Madonna: A Carol Reed Story maintains its unique visual style. The locations are all made up of vivid photos. Most of scenes are wonderful and picturesque, while others are extremely plain. Traveling around a real-world cluttered rooms isn’t interesting at all. Do the developers want to surprise us with a messy room? (If only you could see my room! Every hidden object game would be jealous of it!) Ordinary puzzles don’t give you a lot of pleasure and tedious plot doesn’t push you forward the gameplay. To crown it all, you have to play this title in entire silence, as there is no voice acting. This fact is very strange for such a prominent title.
Overall, if you are looking for a change and hasteless gameplay, give this title a try. Probably instinctive way of playing is your cup of tea. Maybe you are not so peevish as I am.
