The old British TV series “Doctor Who” gained widespread appreciation in due time. The series started in the early 1960s, and growth in its popularity doesn’t decrease till today. The contemporary computer game developers do everything to please fans of these or that film or series. “Doctor Who” lovers are not under-serviced, too. The long-awaited project based on the favorite sci-fi series is a real present for them.
Doctor Who: The Adventure Games - City of the Daleks by Sumo Digital is the first episode of this game series. Actually, the devotees will not judge the gameplay or the logic of the plot development severely. All they are interested in is scrupulous verification of the TV nuances correspondence to the ones of the game. Sumo Digital designers seem to figure on these admirers mainly, so that they can triumph! Well, Doctor Who and his workmate Amy Pond have got the most serious mission – to save the humanity. The life on Earth is destroyed by the Daleks, invaders from the planet of Skaro. Our heroes are to get to the Daleks’ capital in order to undo it. The game is of Arcade & Action genre, but includes some other elements, such as tetris-type and labyrinth-like mini-games. The gameplay of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games - City of the Daleks will meet tastes of all the genre lovers.
Speaking about the graphics, the brilliant character design should be commended. Of course, Doctor Who and Amy’s images are in the spotlight, but the Daleks are made in a quite high-class way, too. The extraterrestrials take the most of the available palette, appearing in yellow, blue, red and white.
The only shortage of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games - City of the Daleks is its sounding, namely the voice-acting. It goes too fast making the personages’ facial expression “be late”. There are some moments when a character has stopped talking half a minute ago, but the picture goes on moving his or her lips. This obviously can’t but strike the eye.
Without taking note of this fact, the gamers can appreciate Doctor Who: The Adventure Games - City of the Daleks indeed. Even if you haven’t seen “Doctor Who” TV series, you will find a lot to interest, to surprise and to capture you.
