NANCY DREW: MESSAGE IN A HAUNTED MANSION Review by DoubleGames
We suppose a whole generation grew up playing as brave detective named Nancy Drew. This time around, we focus on another Her Interactive’s quirky installment under the title Nancy Drew: Message in a Haunted Mansion. Though the target group of this mysterious series is “girls who aren’t afraid of a mouse”, this installment has much wider appeal.
It is an open secret that this point-and-click game makes you interact with different characters and investigate the mansion from top to bottom in order to clear up another mystery. Those who have already tried the prior editions in the series will be pleased to see some solid improvements in the gameplay. So, movement became smoother than in the previous titles, and it was easier to shift the locations. The easy-going interface has been kept and renovated a little bit to make adventure more entertaining.
But renewed game mechanic is half the work and cannot provide Nancy Drew: Message in a Haunted Mansion with utter success. To win the audience, every hidden object premise should have a good portion of intriguing puzzles or mini-games. As for this title, all puzzles are well-integrated into the plot and quite various. There are many logic tasks, the inevitable timed puzzle and mazes. They require general knowledge and all the necessary information lays out the surface of the gameplay, though they are able to absorb you without any frustration.
Overall, the graphics are well-drawn in vibrant manner in details but usually static. Still, there are moments when you can feel the presence of ghost, for example, furniture can come alive or candles light themselves. Surely, these effects have no importance but help tense your mood. The music background plays gently with no irritating bugs and helps convey the enigmatic atmosphere of Nancy Drew: Message in a Haunted Mansion. After all, because of predominance of blurry colors some details are unseen or hard to distinguish. Well, what about to roll your sleeves and crack the mystery!
