THE MYSTERIOUS PAST OF GREGORY PHOENIX Review by DoubleGames
It is long since we were ninny in casual games, but nowadays it is rather hard to please our demanding nature. In this case, we can say with skill that the new hidden object game from White Zebra - The Mysterious Past of Gregory Phoenix is not the best title in its genre.
Aside from the utterly long loading time for every scene, the poignantly bright in-game effects, the cluttered item list, and the almost creepy-looking characters, we found the concept to be interesting, but the execution to be rather poor. The character animations and design are dated to the progressive idea of the game. Graphically, The Mysterious Past of Gregory Phoenix looks slightly fuzzy, the hidden items are vague and the music background is not bad but a bit repetitive.
There is a disturbing lack of instructions for the mini-games, though the hidden object puzzles seems to have more than enough direction. Unfortunately, some items are not titled correctly, so random clicks may be more common than you think! However, the developers add on lots of gimmicky things the help you the whole time you’re trying to find the items there. But in fact all these tools are more harm than good, making the process of searching annoying. So the game creators maybe use this game as a lesson in why certain things are a bad idea.
The characters popping in and out are always annoying, so you cannot help but skip all these dialogues. But skipping the story, you will cut the gameplay greatly. Being not very expressive, the game is very simple and not challenging enough for experienced players. You can try The Mysterious Past of Gregory Phoenix, if you just a newbie there.
