Just read this review till the very end and you’ll know for sure whether this game is worth playing or not!.. Read more

First of all , this game has several great features, but unfortunately the plot isn’t the one of them. The storyline is not very original, it has been used several times, but just so you know, it goes something like this: You take the role of a mother who is looking for her son who disappeared, or better to say, was kidnapped by a mad scientist. This mad scientist’s plan somehow includes her son to make and start his mad machinery and do… whatever? There are many flaws to the plot, besides the unoriginality, and one can only ask why the storyline ends as it ends, completely illogical. The gameplay, on the other hand, is much better, though it cannot be said that the gameplay is better than average. Whispered Secrets: The Story of Tideville is a single player game, belonging to the genre of Hidden Object games, mixed with Adventure and Puzzle elements. The game is a bit slow, and in it there isn’t much happening, but transition from one place to another is not bad. Hidden Object scenes are just like in every other game, so there’s nothing new, you just have to find objects from the list, some of which are interactive, and there is not much backtracking, which is a good thing. There are eight chapters and a bonus one, which makes this game of average length, especially if you play it in Expert mode (there is also Regular mode). There is a journal to aid you on this quest, but there is no map whatsoever. There are hint and skip buttons, that can be used in mini-games and puzzles (that are not so numerous and very standard, like rotating rings and jigsaws).

Now, we come to the bright spots in Whispered Secrets: The Story of Tideville. What this game’s developers can be really proud are the graphics and the music. If you download the free trial version, or if you purchase and play the full version, you will be sure that the graphics in this game is awesome, really smooth, done in kind of a comic style. Everything is clear and colorful, and what especially makes this game visually great is the “water and fog” effects, which makes all the scenes so alive and magical! There are sometimes some pretty dark spots in Hidden Object scenes, so it might be difficult to find all the objects, because they blend in, but it’s rare. The characters are done well, they look real enough and they are not completely, wooden-static.

The music is another feature that brings all the praises to this new Hidden Object game. The music is mysterious in a way, but very soothing, so playing the game helps you to relax. The sound effects are okay, and the voice-overs are amazing, as far as we are concerned. Voice-overs are loud and clear enough, and voice acting is good, with a minor flaw in the voice of Tin’s mother, which is way too calm throughout the game, considering the circumstances in the game.

All in all, Whispered Secrets: The Story of Tideville is a likable Hidden Object/Puzzle/Adventure game coming from GrandMa Studios, which gives you a six-hour pack of fun, in spite of its average story and a bit déjà vu in mini-games and puzzles. What separates this game from other games on the Hidden Object games’ market are the graphics and the music. Both are outstanding, of great quality, and whether you choose the free demo version or the full version, you won’t be disappointed by this game.
