THE LOST CITY: CHAPTER ONE REVIEW BY DOUBLEGAMES

Another creation of Big Fish Games titled The Lost City: Chapter One can become a real disappointment for the experienced gamers. Well, perhaps it is the case when the first pancake is always lumpy as it’s the first episode of the series. However some of the players would not like to taste the second one... Read more

From the very beginning you are not explained what to do and what’s going on. For instance, the first Hidden Object scene you are in doesn’t indicate the objects you have to look for. As well as the first puzzle scene doesn’t explain what you are supposed to do with the keys found. This makes The Lost City: Chapter One a challenging game, but in a negative sense or even senseless. If you don’t do everything in the absolutely correct order (while you don’t exactly know what it is), you can’t advance through the game. A lot of time can be spent on the search of a seemingly right object. But it turns out to be the wrong one and you have to restart the mini-game. Besides, there is no logical bouncing from one location to another. The storyline is represented through the gameplay, but such a skewed gameplay distracts from the gist of the plot making it also scrappy and incoherent.

What about the design of The Lost City: Chapter One at least? It’s not much better than the gameplay in quality. The graphics are primitive and too gloomy and fuzzy at times. The sounding is rather low-grade giving the game not the slightest chance of attractiveness.

The problem with The Lost City: Chapter One lies with its developers, not the gamers. The devs should provide for more variety in the playing styles and more detailed instructions inside the game. As a result of weak work on the game elaboration, the project is doomed to fail.
