Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe's The Masque of the Red Death Collector's Edition

Once again the famous detective Chevalier Auguste Dupin must solve the sophisticated case with your assistance. Dupin received the letter from the mayor office of mayor Prospero. The message was full of despair and fear. It told him the town of Lumineux is under the terror of a shady identity. The criminal has already murdered some town’s authorities. Official circles had nothing to do with the situation. Only well-known detective might deliver them from the grave. You must establish the murder’s identity and bring him to justice before the next victim had been chosen. Soon after arriving the new details showed up. Local people’s behaviour indicates the anti-mayor state of public opinion. You should not hurry up with guilty verdict this time! The case is more intricate as it may seem first. In order to put the justice in the player’s hands, developers add one interesting feature in this game. It is called the Scale of Justice. The idea is that every evidence you will throw into the scale will be allocated in Red Mask or Mayor’s guilty pans. In other words, you are given an instrument to decide who is guilty. That is an interesting option we have never seen before! Another engaging option deals with the camera that is meant to take a picture of the most important things in your opinion. Every photo you will make will be placed into the photo album in Dupin’s private office. You are able to visit it any time you want to check the photo album’s updates or achievements shelves. The standard system of achievements wants you to fulfil the quests and other tasks in exchange for some rewards. In tote, the gameplay of the fifth “Tales” is similar to the regular Hidden Object game. You are given the scenes to seek after required items. All your findings are placed in the inventory. Everything arranged properly to avoid any delay and provide the quick access when one of the items must be interacted with some object on the playground. The team of ERS did not forget to include Puzzles and mini-games. They can offer you a little challenge. However, you will crack them at one dash, if you are an experienced riddle solver.

The atmosphere of the new Dark Tales stayed the same as it was presented in the previous chapters of Dupin’s adventures. Predominance of the dark colors creates the oppressive setting. The biggest disadvantage of the visual side is a fog. Sometimes it makes carefully hidden items hard to recognize. It is definitely not the challenge we are looking for. On the other hand, the voiceovers and background music is just perfect! You will not be plunged into a boredom with the presented melodies. Meanwhile the voice acting will become the music to your ears.

If you are a true fan of Edgar Allan Poe’s works, the new chapter of Dark Tales may disappoint you.  The point is that ERS Game Studios decided to be inspired by source, but they refused to be copycats. They have added some new twists that direct the storyline in a different way in comparison with the original novel. These changes do not mean the game is bad, it is different. It is up to you to give a chance to this title.
