The Veil of Mystery: Seven Little Gnomes

The plotline includes a mansion with an ill fame. There was a legend that the very first owner of this estate – Edward J. Smith had built a Chamber of Fortune beneath the foundation. This Chamber supposed to be full of gold found by Edward and his friends during the hunting. Smith mysteriously disappeared a long time ago, but the legends was still alive. The previous owner of the mansion – John T. Dawson spent seven years in searching for the treasure, but discovered nothing. Finally, a gold-rush undermined his sanity and he ended his life in the mental house. However, John left the diary with some clues for the next pretenders. So, it is your turn to come into possession of this estate. The information collected by Dawson is extremely important for you to understand the existing situation. Moreover, it has some clues guiding to the vein of gold that is supposedly situated underneath the house. The main objective is to find the seven gnomes. Their poems are the keys to the treasure whereabouts. Your playable character will find Dawson’s diary in the beginning of the game. It contains John’s info and everything that will be collected by you. You do not have to expect something groundbreaking from the gameplay of The Veil of Mystery. It is standard to the very marrow of its bones. Your character must seek after a plenty of carefully hidden objects, interact with surrounding items and solve some riddles. Everything is as usual. The inventory and a hint are given in addition to the diary. You will have to click right at the “inventory” title to make it emerge. It causes a problem if the game recognizes such action as an intention to go back to the previously visited area. It is an evident displeasure. The hint resembles an enigma machine. Our advice is that you should not rely on the hint completely. Sometimes it is able to mislead you without giving you a chance to find a way out of the impasse. As you can see a map is not included. So, be ready for a lot of backtracks. The Hidden Object scenes are plentiful and old-fashioned. In addition to the standard HOS the morphing objects are added. They are easy to locate, but still fascinating. The true admirers will be happy without doubt. The Puzzle section gives a kind of a real challenge especially within the Hardcore game mode. By the way, you can choose between three modes: Casual, Advanced and the one we have already mentioned. Game options allow you to adjust some things additionally. For example, you can switch off the irksome sparkles. It is one of the biggest advantages of the game.

The graphic presentation of the Seven Little Gnomes has nothing remarkable, but it is not necessarily a bad thing. According to the cutscenes and game areas we can say the graphics are fresh and crisp. The characters are well animated and voice acted. The other sound effects are also quite suitable while the music score is fantastic! The visuals and melodies create an eerie and mystical atmosphere.

It looks like The Veil of Mystery: Seven Little Gnomes is a mediocre old-school Hidden Object game that has nothing to offer the skillful casual gamer. Unfortunately, this title can be characterized as a disposable time killer. But you should try it anyway. Maybe you will like it.
