According to the genre of Unexpected Journey, most of the gaming time is going to be spent in the hidden object backgrounds. The scenes are crazy cluttered with items, the lists are very long and they make not only the game very slow but bear no relation with the plot. This time clear graphics do not act in game’s favor because all hidden object scenes are obvious and items are simply given as a result. Things are just loaded into the scene instead of challenging you to find them. Hints recharge fairly fast, but random-clicking is not penalized. Moreover, there is no time limit to make it somehow more challenging.

The mini-games are also simple, but cannot be skipped even if you want. The task like finding the differences between the two images is the top of challenge in Unexpected Journey. But the dialogs that are absolutely hackneyed and follow you along the whole gameplay can be luckily skipped. The music is not suited to the game environment, but almost ruins its adventure spirit.

Well, the initial concept was good enough to develop a truly engaging journey, but it seems to us that this chance has been missed. So if there were a timer at least, it might have offered some challenge, but without it all you have got is a mess, not a game. Oh, the first scene looked rather promising!
